It's Okay to Say No

Counting down eight personal and professional tips from Liz Gumbinner.

Whether for money or favor, due to boredom or lack of focus, or just to please someone else, we all sometimes extend ourselves too much and take on more than we can feasibly handle.

But a jack of all trades and master of none doesn't tend to get much accomplished, or at least not as well as it could have been. I often take on more than I need to because I don't wanna miss an opportunity, but invariably I miss out on something else, often something I cared about even more.

The art of saying "no" is also the discipline of narrowing down what is more important and doing it fully and completely. The satisfaction of one or two jobs well done is generally for greater than the stress of doing a bunch of jobs at once, especially when I don't get to finish them all.
