Keep Your Networking Contacts Up To Date
Counting down eight personal and professional tips from Liz Gumbinner.
This idea may be geared more towards the business arena, but we all know the importance of maintaining contact with those in the business, especially those who may have opportunities for us in the future. But I also think there's a broader message: don't lose track of the important people in your life.
Maintaining relationships means maintaining connection.
Whether colleagues or friends, my phone is full of fellow actors and creatives I haven't spoken to in weeks, months, and in some cases years. Some are those I know and hope to work with again, while others are important people I need to reach out to on a more regular basis to maintain a professional connection. Then, there are the remaining group of contacts who are no longer in my life, maybe I don't even remember them and will most likely never see again. (This especially goes for Facebook "friends" as well.)
It's important to surround ourselves with people who mean something to us and contribute to our lives, whether personally or professionally. Purging that contact list of those who drag us down or are no longer important to us will often help us focus more on those we care most about as well as make room for the new people we meet and get to know along the way.
